Machines and tools to be used:

Learning process/procedure:

The learning process will be a hands-on experience. Steps will be demonstrated by the instructor and students will follow suit, with assistance being provided as needed. Various small projects and tasks will serve to provide practice in the development of advanced turning skills.

Prerequisite skills; what level of competency/expertise is required for safe, successful participation:

It is a pre-requisite for this course that all students must have satisfactorily completed the Basic Spindle Course, or its equivalent, or be assessed by a suitable instructor as sufficiently competent in spindle turning to be able to partake in this class.

Project/product to be made:

Emphasis will be on the development of turning skills rather than on the production of any particular project or piece of work. However, turning practice will lead to the production of pieces displaying beads, coves, tapers and finials. To some extent these may be incorporated into finished projects as appropriate.

Duration of course:

Four, two-hour sessions taken over 4 consecutive weeks.

Cost of materials beyond the basic $10 fee:

There may be an additional charge for materials to be determined by the instructor to cover the cost of stock, finishing materials and tool use and replacement.
